Take On The Role Of A Contractor In Your Home

As the father of an autistic child, I have been faced with more than a few necessary home modifications projects. Unfortunately, with the high cost of raising a special needs child and my wife's decision to stay home and raise our son, there simply was no room in our budget to hire a contractor to complete these projects for us. Each weekend for nearly a year, I would pick a project to work on. This past month, I finally finished every project on my list. After learning more than I thought I would ever know about home construction and repair, I have a new found appreciation for the skills of general and specialty contractors. That is why I decided to start this blog to pay tribute to the job these contractors do, and help to empower more homeowners to take on the role of a contractor in their home.

6 Helpful Tips For Cleaning Your Roof Gutters

Blog

Cleaning your roof gutters on a regular basis is very important. If you neglect to remove leaves and other debris from the gutters, it can lead to leaks inside your home. It may not be the most enjoyable job, but it has to be done. Here are six helpful tips for cleaning your roof gutters.

Use the Right Ladder

If you plan on cleaning the roof gutters, it is very important to use a sturdy ladder such as a fiberglass one. A fiberglass ladder is safe and easy to balance. However, if a fiberglass ladder is too heavy for you to move, go with an aluminum one. Do not forget to check the ladder for dents or other defects before you use it.

Buy a Gutter Scoop

Some debris can get embedded in your gutters and are difficult to remove. If you buy a gutter scooper at your local hardware store, you can remove these debris a lot easier.

Wear Suede Gloves

Gutters are filled with bird droppings, dirt and bacteria, so it is important to wear gloves. However, you should not just wear any pair of gloves. When you clean the roof gutters, wear suede gloves because they are durable and resistant to water.

Protect Your Eyes

When you clean your roof gutters, dirt, rat droppings and other debris can fly out and get into your eyes. These items can injure your eyes and even lead to an infection. That is why it is very important to wear eye protection while you clean the gutters. Protective eyewear will prevent these debris from getting close to your eyes.

Put on Rubber-Soled Shoes

Walking around on the roof can be very dangerous if you do not wear the appropriate shoes. Rubber-soled shoes are the best to wear because they adhere to the roof and will prevent your from slipping.

Consider Gutter Guards

If you live in an area with frequent storms and have to clean your gutters more than once a month, consider purchasing gutter guards. These guards are placed over your gutters and will prevent leaves and other debris from accumulating in there. You will not have to clean the gutters nearly as often if they are covered with gutter guards.

Cleaning your gutters on a regular basis does not have to be a daunting task.  If you follow these helpful tips, your roof gutters will stay in great shape. Talk to a reputable roofing company for more tips.
